Audition Criteria can be found below:
Instrumentalists
Must play the chromatic scale the full practical range of the instrument.
Must perform musical excerpt that demonstrates your advanced technical and lyrical abilities (not to exceed 1 minute).
Must provide 32-count marching demonstration of anHBCU style with instrument in carriage position.
Must provide 32-count marching demonstration of an HBCU style with instrument in playing position.
Must perform 32-count HBCU styled dance choreography to demonstrate rhythm and coordination. Feel free to dance to the music/track of your choice or none at all.
While not required, you are encouraged to demonstrate any level of vocal ability. Can be any style or genre (R&B, Classical, Gospel, etc). Feel free to demonstrate multiple styles and genres.
Percussionists
Must perform two rudiments open and closed, at a minimum tempo of 120.
Must provide an HBCU cadence demonstration on primary instrument (snare, multi-drums, bass, tenor, or cymbals) not to exceed 1 minute. Feel free to provide demonstrations on multiple instruments (not to exceed 3).
Must demonstrate marching and choreography requirements as seen in the instrumentalists section above.
Drum Set players please give us your best solo playing in any genre or style, not to exceed 1 minute. Feel free to demonstrate multiple styles and genres.
While not required, you are encouraged to demonstrate any level of vocal ability. Can be any style or genre (R&B, Classical, Gospel, etc). Feel free to demonstrate multiple styles and genres.
Vocalists
Prepared piece demonstrating vocal range and flexibility. Can be any style or genre (R&B, Classical, Gospel, etc). Feel free to demonstrate multiple styles and genres.
Dancers
Start with a brief self introduction. Please ensure that the video captures full body in a two-piece leotard. Perform a prepared combination that demonstrates an exceptional range of your dancing ability in any medium(s) of your choice (Jazz, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, Ballet, Tap, etc....not to exceed 1 minute. Feel free to demonstrate multiple styles and genres.
While not required, you are encouraged to demonstrate any level of vocal ability. Can be any style or genre (R&B, Classical, Gospel, etc). Feel free to demonstrate multiple styles and genres. Being able to sing and dance would definitely increase your chances of making our tour.
Dancer Attire, Hair, and Make-up
Q. What should I wear?
A. A two piece leotard is required for your video audition
Q. How should I wear my hair?
A. Hair should be worn in a current style that is complimentary to your face and should be worn down in order to promote movement.
Q. How should I wear make-up?
A. For the purpose of auditions, make up should be worn in moderation and in tones that compliment your natural beauty.

Q. What are the judges looking for?
A. Judges will focus on dance technique, routine execution, flexibility, showmanship, poise, attitude, personality, enthusiasm, and energy.
