22-23' Paradise Honors High School Chromebook Agreement
Every student at Paradise Honors High School is required to have a school issued Chromebook. Lockdown browser features through GoGuardian and Formative are utilized by teachers to secure tests and manage classroom behavior. These features are only available on school issued Chromebooks, thus all students are required to check one out. This is not optional and there is no longer a BYOD network.

One Chromebook and one manufacturer charger will be checked out to each PHHS student. The student must return a school issued manufacturer charger with the device; no other chargers will be accepted. There is no additional fee for use of a Chromebook because the fee is embedded into course fees.  The equipment will remain the property of Paradise Schools.

Students will be responsible for their Chromebook twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, for the duration of the school year. During this time, Paradise Schools will monitor student use and implement safety applications of the assigned Chromebook.  Concerns about student online activity or use will be communicated by staff to both the student and parents.

Students will be allowed to take their Chromebooks home and will charge them at home. They will need to bring the Chromebook to school every school day.

Student and Parent/Guardian Responsibilities & Liability:
When using the Chromebook the student will follow all rules relating to technology, classroom rules, PHHS Student Handbook guidelines, Paradise Schools User Technology Agreement,  and local, state and federal laws.
Chromebook Responsibilities
The Chromebook should be treated with care and stored in a computer safe backpack. Parents/Guardians will provide a computer safe backpack. Only labels and stickers that are approved by PHHS may be applied to the device. Any personal stickers applied to a device must be removed before the end of year check in. If personal markings/stickers are not removed students will be subject to a  $25.00 cleaning fee. To protect the Chromebook students should abide by the following
  • DO NOT keep papers or books between the keyboard and screen
  • DO NOT keep the Chromebook in a very hot or cold place
  • DO NOT allow the Chromebook to get wet
  • DO NOT eat or drink while using the Chromebook.
Students should wash hands to avoid debris or dirt from becoming embedded in the keyboard.

Students should bring their assigned Chromebook to school EVERYDAY and make sure the Chromebook has been charged.  Charging must be done at home. This expectation will be checked daily.  Repeated failure to bring charged Chromebook daily will result in disciplinary actions.
Charging
The Chromebook charger port is susceptible to collecting debris.  Debris in the charging port can cause electrical problems and result in a necessary and expensive repair to the motherboard ($180.00).  Students should protect the charging port by storing Chromebook in a clean computer safe backpack and avoid contact with any objects that could get stuck inside the charging port. The most common examples of debris include pencil shavings and small food pieces.

To charge the student's Chromebook, the issued manufacturer charger should always be used. Charging should take place at home.  Students SHOULD NOT use off-brand chargers as this will ruin the life of the battery and/or cause a short in the computer. Chargers should be kept in a safe place at home. Lost or damaged chargers should be immediately reported and are the student’s responsibility. If a charger is lost the student account will be charged for the missing item. The school will not accept chargers bought as a replacement. Lost chargers or damages are the financial responsibility of the students. For this reason, special care should be taken to take care of Chromebooks and chargers by individual students.

The Chromebook or issued charger should not be lent to anyone or left unattended. Each student is responsible for their Chromebook and charger.
Software
Programs or files should not be removed from the Chromebook. Filters and safety applications should NOT be bypassed, hacked, or compromised. Students that do so may receive disciplinary action for misuse or a computer violation. Paradise Schools uses GoGuardian software to monitor safe chromebook use age.

Students must only use their school-issued email and account on any Chromebook. Using another person’s account will result in disciplinary action.  This includes siblings sharing accounts. The student may not load personal apps. or extensions on a Paradise Schools’ Chromebook.

Email or any other type of communication online will meet behavior expectations as appropriate, respectful, and responsible.

Passwords must be kept secure and not shared with others. This also includes screensavers and other images placed on student accounts.
Chromebook Care
Parents/Guardians will report to the school any problems with Chromebook usage, care, or damage.  At PHHS, students and/or  parents/guardians should immediately report lost or damaged technology to Michelle Foli (mfoli@paradiseschools.org) in the student IT office. Parents/Guardians and students can also submit a tech ticket through the high school website.

A broken or missing Chromebook should be reported to school authorities immediately and repair should  not be attempted by the student or unauthorized person. Costs of repair or replacement of the Chromebook/Charger will be determined case by case. This is similar to any other school resource that sustains damage through student use.  There are specific charges that will be billed depending on the cost of the part to be repaired.  Please note the pricing may vary and is dependent on the pricing of the vendor at the time of damage. Chromebooks that are damaged will be repaired at the expense of the student and parent/guardian.  All repairs will be performed by the school, not the student, family or another individual.  In the event that a Chromebook or Charger is lost/stolen, the parent is required to notify a school official immediately. The student and parent/guardian will be required to pay for a missing Chromebook or Charger.
