ELIGIBILITY• Applicant may be a choreographer in any dance genre.• Applicant must be a current member of NCDA.• Applicant must reside full-time in North Carolina and create the fellowship work in North Carolina.• Applicant must be at least 18 years of age. • Past recipients of the fellowship, up to 4 years prior, are not eligible to apply. DEADLINES & PROJECT PERIODApplications and work samples must be received by MARCH 25, 2016. All grant-related activities will take place starting in May 2016, upon award notification, continue through the NCDA Event performance weekend, and will end with the Final Report deadline, no later than the fiscal year end.
WHAT WE FUND A stipend of up to $1,000 is granted to the fellowship recipient for the creation and performance of a new work. The new work must premiere at our Annual Event Showcase. The recipient is responsible for keeping a detailed budget outlining the projected and actual expenses. If additional support for the work is secured through other grants or funding sources, these sources must be included in the budget. The recipient may use the stipend to:• Rent rehearsal space• Compensate dancers for time or travel• Compensate own travel to Annual Event performance• Compensate composers, musicians, audio editors, videographers, set builders, costume designers or other collaborators for their contribution to the new work• Purchase props or costume materials for the new work• Other costs related to the creation and performance of the new work
THE AWARD PANEL & EVALUATION CRITERIAA panel of professionals outside of the NCDA Board will review the applications. The evaluation criteria will include artistic excellence based on work samples, the creativity and clarity of the applicant’s proposal, and a demonstrated professional commitment to the art form of choreography. The award panel will review only those choreographers that meet all eligibility criteria and include all required application materials. We anticipate notifying all applicants of the award decision in May 2016.
FINAL REPORT & TAXESThe NCDA Choreography Fellowship recipient will be required to submit a final report and budget to NCDA. For any artist that receives more than $600 through NCDA over the course of a year, we are required to issue a 1099-misc income tax form to them as an independent contractor.
HOW TO APPLYFORM: Fill out the application form below completely, including applicant information, Narrative, Resume, Budget, and Work Sample Description. As part of the application form, you are also required to provide us with a URL for a video of your proposed work.
VIDEO: Upload a video sample of your work to the video sharing site of your choice, such as YouTube, Vimeo, etc. Then copy the URL and paste it into the “Video URL” section of the application below. You must provide at least two, but no more than three, excerpts or complete works and should not exceed 10 minutes total. The work samples you choose should best represent the scope of your work, should be of the highest possible video quality, and should be straightforward documentation, preferably wide shots, and not edited video or video with special effects. You may supply one URL for all work samples together or a separate URL for each.
