Four years ago, a small group of staff from Campus & Residence Life intended to create dialogue about issues of diversity and social justice for a select group of students through a retreat called Talking Circles. The retreat was held during the latter part of J-term and was rooted around the Native American tradition of the Talking Circle. Because of its success, Talking Circles has become an annual retreat.
 
The Talking Circles 2011 planning committee invites your nominations of first-year students who are open to dialogue as they explore various aspects of oppression, privilege and difference at the retreat held Jan. 28 – Jan. 30 at Camp St. Croix in Hudson, Wisconsin.
 
The three-day retreat, sponsored by Campus & Residence Life, is for first-year students who are committed to making positive change within the immediate community and see themselves as change agents for the university. A number of speakers will discuss various aspects of diversity and social justice. This is an opportunity to encourage growth in first-year student leaders.
