IF TAKING AP/IB/HONORS COURSE(S):  Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate/Honors courses are the most rigorous courses offered at Royal High School. They require a considerable amount of commitment and outside-of-class effort. Based on the course, CollegeBoard recommends that students plan for approximately 1-2 hours of daily study outside of the classroom. Students need to be mindful when selecting next year’s academic program. The goal is to develop a program that is challenging, but not overwhelming. It is a delicate balance and we encourage you to talk with your counselor and current teachers with questions/concerns about this balance. I understand that many Honors/AP/IB courses may require a summer assignment. Failure to complete that summer assignment may have a significant impact on my 1st-semester grade, but it is not a reason to drop the class.I understand that this is a YEARLONG commitment in a rigorous course that will require hours of dedicated effort outside of my regular school day.I understand that taking the AP/IB Exam is not required but highly encouraged to potentially receive college credit. (Note: you will need to check with your prospective colleges to determine their minimum AP/IB score requirements and to confirm they accept AP/IB credit). To sign up for the AP/IB Exam, I understand that payment will be due in the fall semester and the exam cost is approximately $100 per test (reduced fees are available for students with financial hardship).I understand that if I fail to return this acknowledgment form to the Counseling Office along with my registration form, it may change my Honors/AP/IB course(s) request to an on-level course. I understand that I am making a commitment to the below AP/IB/Honors class(es) and I will not be permitted to drop to an on-level course.
