Become a volunteer with the Disability Pride NYC and at the 2024 Disability Pride Parade and Festival!

The mission of Disability Pride NYC Parade is to promote inclusion, awareness, and visibility of the disability community. Our goal is to support people with disabilities, redefine the public perception of the community and establish an annual Disability Pride parade in NYC.

The parade will take place on Sunday, October 20th. 

The parade theme is "New York City, celebrating disability swag!"
(Swag defined as stylish confidence:)

10:00AM Parade line-up at Madison Square Park.   Volunteers needed: *Information booth and directing groups along side streets; *Performers and artists circulating on side streets as groups wait for parade start

10:45 AM Remarks for press by parade organizers, several citywide elected officials and Grand Marshalls.
  As the greater parade-going community will be lined-up for the parade at this time, the program will be repeated at 12:15 PM in Union Square .

11 AM Parade's start time.
The route begins at Madison Square Park and proceeds down Broadway to Union Square Park where participants can gather together and celebrate Disability Pride!

Along the parade route: 
  • Community Viewing Area for people who are not marching, Broadway between 21st and 22nd Street. 
    Folding chairs are available at a fee of $2.50 per chair and must be reserved  and paid for in advance.
  • Judges review stand, Broadway between 21st and 22nd street.
    Awards will be given for
    Best Float
    Best Performance (performed while continuing to move down the street)
    Best Costumes
    Most Spirit
Volunteers needed:
*Chair distribution to those registered
*Judges for contests

12:00PM Community gathering begins  in Union Square Park
Tabling by organizations, corporations and City Agencies, performances, community engagement activities. 
Volunteers needed:
*Assisting organizations to find their table location.

12:30 PM Remarks by parade organizers, several citywide elected officials and grand marshalls (repeat and additional of earlier remarks)

Accommodations Available
The parade route is fully accessible. Accessible portable toilets, accessible water stations and service animal relief areas will be provided. For speeches, Communication Access Real-time Transcription (CART), American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, FM System Technology, Quiet Area will be provided.
Volunteers needed: * Maintaining information booth in Union Square * Experienced production team members to keep program on time * Artists and performers to engage with communities throughout Union Square
