Cooking on the Square October 26, 2018
Hey Cook Teams!
It’s that time of year again! Mark your calendar for October 26th from 11:00 am - 1:30 pm.
We are planning for two entrances again this year, at Broad and Dixie and at Jefferson and Freeze. We will be marking off the spaces again this year and allowing for ONE 10’ x 10’ pop up tent per team. More teams means the capability to serve more families and BUILD MORE HOUSES!
Mary Alice Gran will be Coordinating the Cook Teams again this year. Her contact information is at the bottom of this letter.
This is the 22nd year of COTS and we hope to make it bigger and better than ever! Last year you helped us raise $81,000 for Putnam County Habitat for Humanity. Funds raised by COTS pays for materials to build the home for a family and the family, in return, receives an affordable mortgage and makes their payments back to Habitat for Humanity. Brandon and Tabytha Goode and their two children Noah and Caleb, bought the 10th Cooking on the Square house! Your participation in COTS made that happen.
Traditionally, we have only been able to build a COTS home every other year. The COTS Committee has set a goal to raise enough money through Cooking on the Square to build a COTS home EVERY YEAR! THANK YOU for what you do each year to help us with this great event, and to raise money for our mission!
We are asking each cook team to prepare at least 15 gallons or more of your favorite dish and you’re welcome to be creative with your recipes. If you have any kind of shellfish in your recipe please plan to put a LARGE NOTICE of that on your booth.
You’ll need to bring a heat source (there is NO electricity for cook teams) to keep your brew hot along with a table, serving utensils and a clean cooler for rice (supplied by our Rice Girls). AmeriGas is providing propane tanks again this year so you WILL NOT need to bring propane. Remember, if you want to bring a pop-up tent, it can be no larger than 10’x10’.
You and a friend are invited to attend the Cook/Bake Team Luncheon, Monday, October 22, 2018, at First Baptist Church’s Fellowship Hall at 12:00 pm. Come and enjoy lunch cooked by our own Habitat volunteer cooks. RSVP by October 17th. You may bring another Cook Team member with you to this lunch.
VERY IMPORTANT: We will have maps at the lunch! You MUST turn in your information to Mary Alice Gran NO LATER THAN Oct 16th!! Otherwise you will not have an assigned place. No changes will be made to the maps after Oct. 16th and NO SPACES ARE GUARANTEED. We are capping teams at 80 cook teams.
SET UP - FRIDAY OCTOBER 27: Starts 7:30 am- 10:00 a.m.
ALL VEHICLES MUST BE OFF EVENT GROUNDS BY 10:00 a.m.– No Exceptions!
Even if you have cooked with us for YEARS, we NEED to hear from you to update your information and to reserve your space. The demand to cook is greater than ever and we DON’T want you to be left out.
Please invite all your friends and neighbors to come to Cooking on the Square this year! We thank you in advance and look forward to seeing you this year,
