Call for Volunteers
We are currently seeking volunteers and vendors to support our annual ceremony honoring Spring Rites of Passages and the Corn Planting ceremony. Volunteer opportunities may include event coordination, cultural performances, logistics, or outreach. Your potential contribution to this community celebration is greatly appreciated.

VOLUNTEERS
Volunteer roles may include event organization, logistics, food preparation, lifting heavy items, and other related tasks. Your support in this community event is greatly appreciated. We are seeking volunteers who are able-bodied, possess a vehicle (not required) and are willing to assist with errands, and who have flexible availability to work.

We are specifically seeking Black, Indigenous, Two-Spirit, and People of Color (BIPOC) vendors and educational resource booths to participate in this community event. 

Vender fee is $25. The proceeds will support our ceremonies and other programming.

Actualmente estamos buscando voluntarios y proveedores para apoyar nuestra ceremonia anual en honor a los Ritos de Paso de la Primavera y la ceremonia de la siembra del maíz. Las oportunidades de voluntariado pueden incluir la coordinación de eventos, presentaciones culturales, logística o actividades de divulgación. Volunteer Duties & Shift information for the 2 Day ceremony (English)

VELACION | March 13, 8:30pm-5am

Velacion Set-up: 6pm - 8pm

At minimum 2 volunteers

  • Ceremony (Pavement) Area
  • Sweep and pick up debris
  • Arrange chairs
  • Hang decorations
  • Assist with altar setup
  • Flower prep
  • Dining Area 
  • Set-up tables and chairs
  • Fill coolers with ice and  beverages
  • Fill 5 gallon jugs with drinking water
  • Prepare flavored water or agua fresca
  • Prepare coffee, sugar and milk 
  • Cut fruit for evening and morning and place in cooler
  • Set table with plates, cups, utensils and napkins 
  • Restroom maintenance
  • Remove trash 
  • Sweep floors 
  • Stock toilet paper/ soap as needed
  • Place candles in the compost toilet
  • Post signs at the compost toilet and house entrance
  • Land maintenance
  • Organize trash and recycling containers
  • Set-up trash cans and bags
During Velacion 8pm - 12am

At minimum 4 volunteers

  • Dining Area   
  • Maintain cleanliness in food and beverage areas  
  • Prepare more coffee as needed  
  • Refill coolers 
  • Cut & refrigerate rest of fruit
  • Make sure there is still flavored water or agua fresca
  • Refill the 5 gallon jugs with drink water
  • Prepare for dinner at 12pm
  • Clean up food station
  • Restroom maintenance 
  • Remove trash and dispose of properly
  • Help cleaned grey water from hand washing station
  • Inspect compost toilets to ensure it is clean and stocked with toilet paper
  • Makes sure sink still has hand soap

Last Shift of Velacion: 12am - 5am

At minimum 2 volunteers

  • Dining Area   
  • Direct people to the food at 12am (dinner)
  • Let people know the dishes are reusable and not to throw them away
  • Let people know what kinds of tamales we have: chicken, bean, and rajas
  • Make sure there is enough silverware, plates, and napkins
  • Clean up food station
  • Land maintenance
  • Keep an eye on the trash - change bag if needed
  • Make sure the tables are clean
  • Remove chairs from pavement area
  • Sweep area

DANZA CEREMONY | March 14, 8am - 5pm

Saturday Morning 8am -  12pm

At minimum 4 volunteers

  • Ceremony (Pavement) Area
  • Help with setting up danza area
  • Help remove chairs from ceremony area
  • Dining Area  
  • Arrange the pan dulce and coffee station 
  • Prepare coolers with ice
  • Prepare hydration coolers/station
  • Cut fruit, portion into containers, and store them in the refrigerator or coolers to chill
  • Restroom maintenance
  • Help cleaned grey water from hand washing station
  • Create signage for trash and recycling stations
  • Land maintenance 
  • Set up trash and recycling stations
  • Help set up children’s activities inside the community center
  • Ensuring that the land is being respected 
  • Help with providing breaks for other volunteer

During Danza 12 pm - 3 pm

At minimum 4 volunteers

  • Volunteer at the children's activities station
  • Dining Area
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the coffee station
  • Distribute fruit and drinks as needed  
  • Hand out water when required
  • Pass out fruit
  • Refill coolers with ice and beverages 
  • Hydration Station
  • Check in with vendors, and photographers to offer water or assistance
  • Distribute fruit and drinks as needed
  • Restroom maintenance
  • Help clean the grey water from below the hand washing station at compost toilet
  • Land maintenance
  • Capture photos and videos of the event and share on social media using @danzamacuilxochitl #danzaazteca  
  • Upload any photos or videos to our Google Photos
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the dancers outside the circle  
  • Check in with vendors, and photographers to offer water or assistance
  • ***Enjoy the ceremony and feel free to ask questions***

End of Danza  3 pm - 7 pm

At minimum 4 volunteers

  • Ceremony
  • Ensure that all volunteers and dancers have received their memento ( fruit from the altar, and candles)
  • Hydration Station
  • Fill the cooler with ice and beverages
  • Prepare suero or agua fresca
  • Dining Area
  • Arrange tables and chairs for dinner
  • Check with our food provider to see if they require any assistance
  • Confirm that the dancers and volunteers are served first, followed by the general public.
  • Land maintenance
  • Assist with collecting trash.
  • Clean tables and wash dishes
  • Clean toilet and take out trash
  • Make sure trash can are not full if so replace bag

Mínimo 4 voluntarios.

  • Registrarse en la mesa de voluntarios y recoger una camiseta de voluntario
  • Instalar las mesas de voluntarios
  • Acomodar la estación de pan dulce y café
  • Preparar hieleras con hielo
  • Preparar las hieleras/estación de hidratación
  • Cortar fruta, porcionarla en recipientes y guardarla en el refrigerador o en hieleras para que se enfríe
  • Instalar estaciones de basura y reciclaje
  • Crear señalización para las estaciones de basura y reciclaje
  • Ayudar a instalar las actividades para niñas y niños dentro del centro comunitario

Durante la ceremonia de Danza de 12:00 p.m. a 5:00 p.m.

Mínimo 4 voluntarios.

  • Recibir la limpia con la sahumadora
  • Mantener la limpieza de la estación de café
  • Distribuir fruta y bebidas según sea necesario
  • Repartir botellas de agua cuando se requiera
  • Rellenar las hieleras con hielo y bebidas
