Welcome to 'The Future of Education,' a 5-part series in celebration of Educator Appreciation Month. The Harvard Alumni for Education, Cambridge Chapter SIG launched this series hosted by co-Chair, Dr. Crystal Rose, in collaboration with other partners and stakeholders from the Harvard community to present five groundbreaking digital roundtable events from April 2022 - May 2022.


Each event sets out to capture a snapshot of a specific junction of education in the context of exploring obstacles and best practices through the lens of world-renowned thought leaders in this space. In our commitment to recording and sharing our presentations and discussions, we believe these segments can facilitate productive reflection and connection during this momentous historical moment. Whether this sparks new ideas or encourages conversation, we hope you can take inspiration from our incredible leaders in academia. Behind The Scenes Look At Elite College Admissions in the New Normal

Let us know if you'd like to add to the conversation of the new normal in the college admissions process,  which has been radically changing in recent years. Many parents don’t fully understand what it now takes to get accepted into highly selective schools, including the Ivies, Stanford, MIT and more. We also explored this with Susan Goodkin, J.D. although this session was not taped we reviewed the following:

What you need to know and what mistakes to avoid 

HS Curriculum to consider, starting in 9th grade

Testing (lots of recent changes!)

Extracurriculars (most students don’t understand how to approach them in a way that increases their admissions odds, but also makes high school more interesting and less stressful)

College application essays (including which advice from admissions officers students should ignore)

Students activity lists, and more.
