A Confession of Curiosity
The attendant pulls back the irradiated curtain. His goggled eyes survey you calmly as you walk into the room. It has a desk, lit by a solitary candle, an inkwell, and a pile of paper.
The priest, a woman dressed in white robes, wears an owl mask. Her tippet is covered in irrigo. Her eyes are grey, tinted with purple. Two white cats, one on her lap, another on her feet, watch intently. She gestures for you to sit.
"Curiosity is an error of knowledge. But knowledge, no matter the kind, requires sacrifice."
"What did you seek, and what was the consequence?"
Your answer
She listens to your confession, and gives you a green candle, writ with the Correspondence.
I learned this from a blind man near Spite. Burn this candle when you wish to sleep, and it will ease you. A man will come later. Cover your mirrors, but one, and let him cross through. A labour of knowledge is commendable, and the laborer is worthy of his reward."
As you prepare to sleep, you hear a knock. It is a man wearing golden sunglasses, with quite a few pistols and rifles. And two white cats. You lead him to a mirror, and he waits. You burn the candle, and quickly you are asleep. You dream, but you forget them when you wake. You only remember a phrase- "Ware serpents".

The Keen Midnighter's Confession
"I was a foremost authority on science and the supernatural in the Neath. There was one secret that I had yet to find a answer for- the nature of the Vake. I began relentlessly searching for answers. Ultimately, I found a man (or woman) working in the Great Game- someone who wore multiple scarves, called themselves the Muffled Intriguer. They could procure a fragment of it's hide. The deal was discovered by the Masters, who promptly laid siege to the Flit to arrest me. I was taken to Spite, to an asylum hidden deep in its folds, supposedly for orphans. There I lost my mind."
"But my folly affected many around me. The Muffled Intriguer was beaten and arrested. My brother was killed for pursuing a deal behind the mirrors to find me. But they found a way to find me, to stop the deal from ever taking place. And thus, I gave up the life of a researcher."
