Middlebury Makerspace Pledge
This is our community agreement that we use to establish a safe and welcoming environment for all and a commitment to joyful learning and exploration. You only need to fill it out out once, the first time you use the Makerspace.

The Middlebury Makerspace is an awesome resource whose mission is to educate and encourage students, staff, faculty to Design impactful projects. This journey begins with training in the safety and fundamental operation of equipment, and ends with a thriving community of Designers of all sorts.

As a first step toward fulfilling this mission, we all must acknowledge the risks (including death) inherent in the Makerspace, and work together to mitigate those risks. We must all adopt a strategy to protect our bodies, our equipment, our building and our sense of belonging.

As the Director of the Makerspace the role that I can play is to communicate the mandatory components of this journey, to develop a team of Teaching Assistants to hold Open Hours where 1-on-1 help is available, to teach Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced full semester courses, and to work with other professors so that their courses can utilize the Makerspace safely and successfully.

The role that you, the member, need to play is to complete the safety trainings for the space itself and the basic equipment trainings for the gear that you intend to use. You need to locate and use the Personal Protective Equipment appropriate for each task. And you need to advocate for your needs as you step toward each activity.

If you have a project idea, what is it?

What if anything makes you concerned or worried about starting to engage the Makerspace?
