-When requesting courses be sure to use the recommendations your current teachers entered into PowerSchool, as you will use this form when registering with a CHS school counselor.
-If you are not recommended for a core class you would like to take, please work with your teacher to make a plan to improve your recommendation.

There are three levels of study at the high school level, Grade-level, Honors/Advanced Placement /Dual
Enrollment. Students have the option of taking courses at any level while pursuing a high school diploma.
When confirming course selection it is important to know the various levels of study as well as the
student expectation for each level.

Leveled-Up and Honors (H)/Honors-Option (HO) /Advanced Placement (AP) /Dual Enrollment (DE) –
these courses are designed for highly motivated students who have demonstrated high level of
achievement and who desire the challenge of college-level work while still in high school. Students
enrolled in Advanced Placement courses are expected to take the AP examination in May. Dual
Enrollment (DE) courses are designed for students who wish to earn college credit from Piedmont Virginia
Community College (PVCC) and/or Virginia State University (VSU).

Grade-level - Grade-level courses are designed to prepare students for college and other post-high school
opportunities and are on grade level. All grade-level courses are without additional notation (i.e.
Grade-level Biology is noted as Biology).
