This year, Writers in the Schools (WITS) is serving your child’s classroom. Each week, a professional local creative writer visits your child’s classroom to teach them how to write poetry, fiction, or creative non-fiction. The writer collaborates with the classroom teacher to make each lesson both educational and fun. Over the course of ~10–14 sessions, students explore their own stories and use words as a powerful tool of expression. In the 2025-2026  year, WITS will serve ~37 public K-12 schools and 2 Seattle Children’s Hospital departments.

Throughout the 2025-2026 academic year, WITS will serve ~6,000 students, about 50 of whom will participate in the WITS Year End Readings. The evenings are celebratory events and all student readers will receive a commemorative broadside of their piece. This year, your student has been selected by their WITS writer to participate in the Year End Readings. Congratulations!

The 2026 Year End Readings will be held on June 3 (elementary and select middle school students) and June 4 (select middle and high school students) at Town Hall Seattle. We would be honored to have your student as one of our featured readers. Please confirm your acceptance of this invitation by submitting the following permission slip.
