Benefits of Cooperative Energy Futures Community Solar Program:

  • Reduce your energy costs: subscribers see an overall savings of about 10%-20%

  • Support renewable energy! Fossil fuels use is the leading cause of climate change, asthma and other health threats.

  • CEF is a cooperative meaning our members support, benefit from, and own renewable energy.

How does Community Solar work?

  1. You subscribe to and own a portion of the energy produced by the Community Solar Garden (CSG). Most households are allocated 7-10 panels.

  2. As an energy generator, Xcel is required to pay you for the energy produced from your subscription. Your payment from Xcel comes in the form of a monthly bill credit.

  3. Some of your bill credit automatically goes to CEF to cover our costs for building and maintaining the CSG. The rest of the bill credit lowers the amount you owe Xcel every month. Savings amounts vary according to the size of your subscription and how much energy the CSG produces in any given month, but subscribers must, by law, save each month.

We are currently have a waiting list for the community solar gardens that are completed. We are actively developing new community solar gardens that will be finished in 2028. CEF prioritizes subscribers that are Low to Moderate Income. We would encourage you to become a member of CEF! When we start the enrollment process for a new CSG we prioritize CEF members who are currently not subscribers. Anyone can become a member at anytime. In order to become a member you sign a membership agreement (submit a different Google form on the website) and pay a one time $25 fee. Please be sure to do both steps since both are required in order to become a member. CEF membership means you are eligible to participate in CEF programs and have the opportunity to receive profit sharing dividends, have a say in how the co-op is governed through the election of board members, and invest in our preferred stock.
