NM Summer of Dreams Youth Summit
NM Dream Team together with UWD have the honor of presenting the first summer program "Summer of Dreams", it will be an intense program full of knowledge and fun. It will take place from June 25th to August 11th of 2018, for 4 days a week, 3 hours a day, in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Vegas and Las Cruces. The intent of this program is to empower our immigrant, refugee, people of color and youth of the LGBTQ community through the exposure of New Mexico's social justice history, as well as national movements. The program is intended to provide a guide for students to discover their role and responsibility in the organization of the community, and gain practical experience in generating changes in their locations and at the state level. As organizers it is our duty to educate our community and empower it to feel safe and end fear!

The points the program will address;

• Dream It: Knowledge and Resources
Students will gain knowledge about the history of the social justice movement, such as immigration, LGBTQ, women and indigenous rights to better understand the political and social moment in which we find ourselves.

• Power it: Leadership Development
Students will learn from experience and local organizers about how the roots of organizing play an important role in society. They will gain knowledge about the organization of philosophy, campaign training, self-history and critical thinking skills through a framework of racial justice and intersectionality.

• Make it: Take Action
Young people will have the opportunity to organize events, conduct surveys, participate in forums, organize in communications and digital.

• Feel it : Sustainability to the community
Students will learn and grow by fun activities such as activism, music-vism, art-vism and wellness healing. Workshops for college preparation, tutoring, and scholarships will be offered.

• Advocacy and how it shapes the political conversation
• Public speaking skills and interpersonal skills
• Community Organizing and the power of people
• How to organize community events and actions
• Civic Engagement
