Hi! Thanks for clicking this link to see what volunteer opportunities exist for the Watertown Orchestra program!

We have about 120 students in the 4th and 5th grade program and there are times when we have a bunch of them together at the same time and could certainly use some help. Here are some instances where adults eyes and ears would be extremely beneficial:

All City Orchestra Rehearsals (4:15 - 5:30 on Tuesdays at WMS)
After school concerts (unsure of all dates, but one is Thursday, April 6th, 2023)
In-school concerts (December/January, and June: usually 8:30 - 10am time frame)
Boston Symphony Youth Concert (early May - during the school day)
Photographing Concerts (we have a camera you can use)
Carpooling Connection (All City Orchestra, etc)
More!

Parents who volunteer at our school events may need to submit paperwork to the school. I'll look into this and keep you posted!

Rehearsal Help: Help manage students during dress rehearsals for larger concerts (such as string spectacular in April)

Concert Help: Sit with students while they are not performing so they have an adult if they are needing to use the restroom, etc

Concert Photographer: Use either your own gear or borrow our equipment to photograph our concerts. We will give you a memory card to use if using your own gear for privacy purposes, but can share photos of your child with you. No experience needed!

Live Stream Tech: We typically live stream our concerts (at a distance, for privacy purposes) on Facebook Live. No experience needed!

Carpooling Connection: If you're open to sharing your contact info for rides to/from All City Orchestra or our dress rehearsal in April, please check this box.

Chaperone: School day field trips (ie, Boston Symphony, etc)

Chaperone: Field trips not during the school day (not currently scheduled, but good to know)

Mystery String Player: Do you play a string instrument? Join the orchestra! Having an adult play with the kids is very beneficial in rehearsals, and can also be done for performances. It's great to have a more seasoned player available for good modeling and questions. We would borrow your skills during All City Orchestra rehearsals, and the String Spectacular in April.

Percussion/Piano: We occasionally have pieces that include piano or percussion parts. We attempt to get these out to middle or high school students, but occasionally need additional assistance. We have the instruments needed to perform the parts.

"PTO" for Instruments

We are hoping to find a team of parents and caregivers interested in putting together a sort of PTO for instruments in Watertown. We are still figuring out what this looks like, as it would partner a bit with the organization Friends of Watertown Music, but are looking to see who may be interested in getting involved in that way.
