Event Overview: NHMLAC is hosting an in-person celebration on Friday, October 16, 2026 as part of the week-long Black Mammalogists Week 2026 event. Join us for a hands-on event honoring the incredible contributions of Black scientists and conservationists in the field of mammalogy. Website:

Context: This celebration amplifies the global
Black Mammalogists Week initiative, a movement started in 2020 to connect current and aspiring Black mammalogists across the Diaspora.
Event Time: 10a-2p
Poster Presenters and Selection: We are able to showcase up to 6 student posters in NHM's African Mammal Hall during the event, providing a platform for students to share their research, conservation, or outreach work related to mammalogy. We welcome undergraduate and graduate students to express interest. Students from Black and Indigenous backgrounds are particularly encouraged to fill out this form, but all expressions of interest will be fully reviewed and given consideration by Black Mammalogists Week organizers. Poster presenters will be chosen and notified by EOD on Monday 9/28 and we expect confirmation from presenters by 9/30. All poster presenters will receive 1) free entry to the museum for the full day, 2) a Black Mammalogists Week t-shirt, and 3) entry into a raffle to win more prizes. PLEASE NOTE: Poster presenters will be responsible for printing their own posters and organizing their own travel to the museum.
