How is CCR’s 4D CS Professional Learning unique for Maine teachers?
Districts want to offer Computer Science course(s) to their students, but the state of Maine does not offer teachers a certification for Computer Science education, as they do for most other subjects.

These 4D CS professional learning courses provide educators with a broad scope of CS skills and concepts integrated with 21st Century skills and competencies while earning both recertification hrs and micro credentialing badges.

What are the CS skills included?
Introduction of a broad scope of Computer Science topics including:

-Virtual Reality/ Augmented Reality,
-Computer programming,
-Game development,
-Internet functionality,
-Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence,
-Cybersecurity and Online Safety,          
-Web design,
-Mobile App development.

These professional learning courses integrate both the CS content and the most impactful instructional strategies to meet the needs of today’s learners.

How is this provided?
The Flexible environment was designed to meet the time and travel constraints that educators face, in a 5-6 week blended learning environment.

Interactive course: Harvard/MIT’s EdX platform- work both individually (asynchronously) and together (synchronously) as part of an ongoing cohort.

Each module covers both essential content and relevant competencies (collaboration, ethics, and growth mindset), while including the best instructional strategies for computer science.

Built-in assessments and dozens of opportunities to communicate directly with fellow learners and a mentor instructor, in a ratio of 10-15 teacher-learners to 1 instructor. 

Builds an online Professional Learning Community so that educators can share resources and support each other throughout their teaching careers.
 
Course(s) prepares teachers to teach CCR’s CS 1 course and /or the CS 2 course, which was developed through a grant from the Harold Alfond Foundation.    

4D CS 1
Educators earn 48 recertification hours and up to 12 micro credentialing badges per course, awarded by Thomas College and CCR, with support from the Harold Alfond Foundation.
