BikeSafetyQuiz.com FY25 Mini-Grants - $2 per student

Dear elementary school Physical Education or main classroom teacher,

Are your students learning the safety skills related to bicycling, a healthy, lifelong activity?  Are they learning about relevant state laws and how to avoid common child bicyclist crash types?  Too many children have only superficial knowledge of these topics.  Ride Illinois, a statewide bicycle organization working with IDOT to improve safety of cyclists and motorists on the road, has an easy way to help.

Thanks to IDOT’s Injury Prevention funding, we are reimbursing elementary schools  $2 per student (up to $2,000 per school per grant year, higher if our grant funds allow).  This covers school staff time to assign and use our free, interactive quiz-based "Child Bicyclist" BikeSafetyQuiz (BSQ) lesson as a 15-30 minute computer assignment.  The amount of the reimbursement mini-grant is based on the number of students using BSQ from October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2025.

To apply, please complete the brief questions in the next sections.

Our BSQ Child Bicyclist quiz, with content approved by the Illinois Secretary of State, is appropriate for 4th and 5th grade (or younger with adult help).  We make it very easy for teachers to assign the online lesson.  After you complete this form, we'll make a copy of the quiz just for your school and provide a link for your students to use.  We'll send a second link to a spreadsheet, where you can monitor student results.   (If your school already has a quiz copy and spreadsheet, these and the links stay the same each year.)  Once per semester, when your students are done using the quiz, report how many completed it on our simple claim form, and we’ll send a check to your school!

Thanks in advance for helping to close an educational gap and making roads safer.
