Khenpo Karma Tenkyong (Tenzin Namgyal) is a dynamic and compassionate teacher, dedicated to protecting the natural world and spreading the blessings of the Dharma to children and adults alike. In 2014, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa appointed Khenpo Tenkyong to Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD) as president and resident teacher. He currently serves as resident teacher, offering guidance and instruction to the broader Karma Kagyu community through KTD, its affiliated Karma Thegsum Chƶling (KTC) centers, and Karma Kagyu Study Groups (KKSGs).
Khenpo Tenkyong began his monastic journey early in life, receiving his hair-cutting ceremony from the revered Vajra Acharya Tenga Rinpoche. In 1985, he entered Karma Drubgyu Chokhor Ling Monastery in Pokhara, Nepal, for basic monastic education. The following year, he moved to Karma Samten Ling in Kathmandu, where he studied Tibetan grammar, literature, and poetry.
From 1988 to 1990, he trained at Dharma Chakra Center/Karma Shedup Chokhorling in Rumtek, Sikkim, Indiaāthe main seat of the Karma Kagyu lineage outside Tibet, established by the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa. There, he immersed himself in Dharma studies, Buddhist rituals, and community practice.
In 1990, he entered the prestigious Karma Shri Nalanda Institute (KSNI), where he undertook an eleven-year program in higher Buddhist studies. His curriculum included Buddhist philosophy, religious history, logic, Tibetan grammar, Sanskrit, and English, preparing him for a lifetime of scholarship, service, and teaching.
