Reinstate Professor Evan Mandery in the Honors Department: An Educator and Mentor We Can't Lose

Stand with Professor Evan Mandery: A Call to Action

John Jay College has made the deeply concerning decision to remove Professor Evan Mandery from his teaching and mentoring role in the Honors Program. This decision deprives Honors students of one of most influential educators and mentors at John Jay College. Future students will miss out on an exceptional education and meaningful opportunities to cultivate their potential and achieve excellence.

For years, Professor Mandery has been a cornerstone of academic and professional mentorship at John Jay. His unwavering dedication has helped hundreds of students achieve their dreams. Professor Mandery has helped students secure admissions to law school, graduate programs, doctoral studies and guided them in pursuing careers that make meaningful contributions to the common good. His work has consistently elevated the aspirations and potential of John Jay students, furthering the mission of the college itself.

Students were not consulted about this decision, nor have they been provided with any explanation. This lack of transparency undermines the very values of justness and fairness that the college stands for.

Professor Mandery’s absence would create a void that cannot easily be filled. His mentorship has been life-changing for so many, and his removal sets back the momentum of student success, particularly for those striving to overcome systemic barriers.

We urge John Jay College to reconsider this decision and reinstate Professor Mandery as an educator within the Honors Program. Your voice is critical to this effort. Below, you’ll find a petition to show your support and advocate for the restoration of this invaluable mentorship.

How You Can Help:

  1. Sign the Petition: Add your name to the list of students, alumni, and community members advocating for Professor Mandery’s reinstatement. Share your experiences with Professor Mandery and why his role is essential for student success.
  2. Write to John Jay: At the end of this petition, you’ll find detailed instructions on how to join the email campaign. Please take a moment to review them and take action—your participation matters!
  3. Spread the Word: Encourage others to sign and voice their support. Together, we can show the college administration how vital Professor Mandery’s contributions are.
