RSVP History, Literature, and Faits Divers
THURSDAY, APRIL 27 // 6:30-7:30 P.M.
Location: Maison Française East Gallery, Buell Hall

Ivan Jablonka explores the relationship between history, literature, and faits divers through a discussion of his two recent books, Laëtitia ou La fin des hommes (Le Seuil, 2016) and L’Histoire est une littérature contemporaine (Le Seuil, 2014), which will be published in English translation by Cornell University Press in 2017. Laëtitia takes up a news item story of a girl’s murder as an object of historical study and analyzes her life story as a “social fact.” It received the Renaudot and Goncourt Prizes, the Prix Médicis, the Prix Le Monde and the Prix des prix littéraires. L’Histoire est une littérature contemporaine explores the relationship between history and literature.
