The MSTI (Math and Science Teaching Initiative) Affiliate Scholars Program is designed to recruit and encourage college students to enter a pathway to become middle school and high school Math and Science teachers. The program also exposes middle and high school students to the benefits and possibilities of pursuing a college degree at a local community college or CSU by connecting them with near-peer MSTI mentors.

The MSTI Affiliate Scholars program provides early field experience for CSU East Bay students through in-school teaching assistance -- satisfying a state requirement to enter a teaching credential program. MSTI Scholars serve one or more teachers directly in the classroom assisting in in-person or virtual contact hours with students, pre-class preparation, and grading and recording assignments.
