ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
Teaching grammar separately, away from the context of writing, is not best practice, but teaching about language aspects as part of the writing process IS effective. Teachers know that when students have knowledge of sentence elements (prepositional phrases and clauses) and parts of speech (prepositions, adjectives, and adverbs) developing writers make more intentional choices when they are composing. What results is stronger, more engaged writing. In this session participants will learn how to help students absorb the abstractions of grammar so that they feel empowered as writers.
