We're excited to announce our upcoming outreach initiative, set to launch on the week of 9/10. This initiative will run both leading up to and following the #WeekWithoutDriving campaign. We kindly request all participants to incorporate the hashtag #WeekWithoutDriving in their social media posts, contributing to the campaign's visibility. Additionally, we encourage everyone to take part in our vlogging social media challenge!

How does the #WeekWithoutDriving work?

You can get around however you want, but the challenge is not to drive yourself in any car. This applies to all your activities — not just your work commute. If you normally transport other family members or friends, it applies to those trips too.

You can ask someone else to drive you, but make a note of how much you “owe” this person in their time, and if you felt obligated to support them in other ways (ie, doing all the dishes). You can use ride hail or taxis if they exist where you need to go, but again, think about how the cost could impact your decision to take this trip if this was regularly your only option.

This isn’t a disability simulation or a test of how easily you can find alternatives. We know that it is far easier to give up your keys if you can afford to live in a walkable area well served by transit, or can outsource your driving and other transport and delivery needs to other people. Having to drive during the challenge does not signify failure. The point is to consider how someone without that option would have coped, and what choices they might have made.

We invite everyone to embrace the #WeekWithoutDriving challenge.we would love for everyone to participate in the experience for an entire week. Even if dedicating a full week seems challenging, consider taking part for at least one to a few days. You may discover some interesting insights from this experience. We trust that you will commit to the best of your capacity!

Lastly, while this situation may present some challenges, it's important to remember that it's entirely manageable with a bit of planning and an open mindset. It might require a departure from the usual routine of simply getting into your vehicle and heading to your destination, but this shift can also bring new experiences and opportunities.

To make this transition smoother, taking some time to plan your trip and explore alternative options is key. Don't hesitate to reach out to members of your community for assistance, whether it's through carpooling or connecting with individuals who rely on alternative modes of transportation. Embracing this support system and engaging in meaningful conversations with others can lead to a richer and more enlightening experience.

We hope that this journey brings you valuable introspection and a deeper understanding of the barriers your community may face. Your willingness to adapt and connect with others is commendable, and we wish you a rewarding and enlightening experience ahead.
