Ray Elementary Coding Workshop(Spring 2018)
compileHer(FEMMES) UChicago is hosting a 7 week tech workshop series for girls. These workshops will be led by University of Chicago undergraduates and will serve as an introduction to real-world tech skills, including lots of hands-on practice, lessons in a number of coding languages, and projects that you’ll be able to share with your friends! Projects will include robotics, 3D graphics, music-making software, and much more!

The workshops are open to all girls in grades 6, 7, and 8. No experience is required—our teachers and TAs are well-versed in computer science, and will teach you everything you need to know! The workshops will be held at a Ray Elementary room (specific room number to be determined) on Mondays from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, beginning April 9th and ending May 21st. In order to sign up, please fill out this form.

The workshop series is eight weeks long. Our curriculum is designed to be modular, so if something comes up and you have to miss a workshop, you don’t need to worry about catching up for the next one! Additionally, the workshops are free. Please contact us with any questions at compileher@gmail.com.

We can only accommodate twenty students on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure to sign up quick! We will contact you if your child has a spot in the workshop series. We look forward to meeting you all, and thank you for your interest in compileHer!

Expectations for Behavior, Attendance and Pick-Up Procedures
Ray students are expected to adhere to the same behavioral expectations in before and after school programs that they follow during the school day.
We use the Three Bs: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe.

If a student violates these expectations, before and after school program directors may contact parents and/or remove students from the program at their discretion. For fee-based classes, refunds may or may not be made at the discretion of the program director.

Unless given consent otherwise, parents/guardians are responsible for picking up their children on time at the end of class by the Ray Main Entrance. If student is not picked up after 10 minutes, he/she may be taken to the main office under the care of the front desk attendant, Assistant Principal, or Principal.

If a student is chronically picked up late or absent from the program, the student may be removed from the program at the discretion of the program director.

Working together we hope that these procedures and protocols will never have to be utilized. They exist to ensure that students will always be safe and supervised. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
