This presentation will explore current issues facing teaching Tele Mental health in a Counseling Master program and implications in Counselor Profession Identity. Digital technologies have transformed our lives, and now the data-driven revolution is beginning to transform mental healthcare. The world's response to the pandemic has highlighted the importance of Tele mental health. Digital technology is quickly changing the way to provide clinical interventions, and consequently, the counselor education contents. Are we facing this new challenge as counselor educators? Are we planning to introduce new content in the courses? Which one? Do we think about new teaching strategies? Are we exploring new ways to provide Internship opportunities? Dr. Mariotti will address all of these questions, and will also share his direct experience in teaching Telemental Health in a Counseling Master program.

Presenter: Davide Mariotti, Ph.D., Western Connecticut State University

Dr. Mariotti has a well-developed research agenda related to technology its impact on the mental field, with particular interests in tele mental health, artificial intelligence and virtual and augmented reality. As a member of the American Counseling Association, he is currently a part of the Counseling and Technology Interest network. Dr. Mariotti has several publications, the latest one in 2020 was in the prestigious International Journal for the Advancement of Counselling. Additionally, Dr. Mariotti is an active presenter at national and international counseling conferences, and recently, related to Telemental Health Counseling, he presented at the WCSU department conference. Mariotti has also presented research at the Association for Counseling Education and Supervision conference in Seattle (2019). That presentation was on how artificial intelligence is impacting our field. In professional activities, he developed a partnership within the largest counseling association in Italy. Mariotti recently spoke in their online forum and garnered more than 100 participants for his presentation titled Distance Counseling: Ethical, Legal and Technical Aspects in the American Experience.
