Walking with The Snowman - Artist Submission Form
Wild in Art are excited to be partnering with Middlesbrough Council on a public art sculpture trail project over the 2019 festive season. ‘Walking with the Snowman’ will see 12 giant sculptures of The Snowman™ brought to life and intricately hand painted by talented artists. These sculptures will form a trail around the town centre, encouraging families to explore and enjoy this free trail activity over the festive period.

The Event Details

• Themed trail based around the 12 days of Christmas with 12 Large Snowmen displayed around the town centre
• 9 weeks trail running from 2nd November 2019 to the 4th January 2020
• Accompanied by a family friendly trail and activity map and wrap around PR and social media campaign

Nine of the sculptures will be commissioned from Wild in Art’s existing national portfolio of arts professionals (PLEASE NOTE THESE HAVE ALREADY BEEN COMMISSIONED), but we are committed to offer 3 new paid commissions to locally based Middlesbrough artists and arts practitioners. This is your opportunity to get involved and win a commission for this high profile project and have your artwork seen by tens of thousands of residents and visitors to the town during the busiest time of the year.

Artists commissioning process

We would like you to respond to one of the following themes through this open call process;
• A Partridge in a Pear Tree
• Nine Ladies Dancing
• Or Eleven Pipers Piping
You may enter up to 2 designs, and we only require the front for this competitive open call. If your design is successfully selected you will be commissioned to produce both a front and back 2D interpretation of the design for feedback and consultation; before having to fully realise the design on to a 3D fibreglass sculpture.

N.B. Penguin Ventures have requested that the Snowman’s face always remains recognisable. The face cannot be altered, obscured or turned in to another character. Due to licensing, no other characters, real or celebrity can be featured on these designs either.

The fee for the commission is £1,000.00 – inclusive of artist time for design and realisation, and also painting materials.
