Finlandia University Fifth Annual Kalevalathon
Join us for a reading of the entire Kalevala, Finland's national epic, from start to finish! This event is both virtual and in person, so from Hancock to Bangkok, from Porvoo to Idaho, everyone is welcome. Pop in and out as you like and when you can.

Kalevala Day
Tuesday, February 28, 2023
9:00 am - approximately midnight (Eastern Standard Time, UTC -5)
Join us in person at Keranen Room, Jutila Center, 200 Michigan Street, Hancock, MI
Join us via Zoom using the link provided after registration.

Brief Information:
If you would like to read a poem from the epic for the group, you will be asked to virtually "get in line" in the event itself. Unfortunately, we cannot promise in advance that a person can read a particular rune.

Any and all translations and languages of the 1849 version of Kalevala are welcome, except abridged or adapted versions--please ask if you have questions! An online English-language version for those who want it will be provided by a link at the event. Physical copies will be available at the venue.

Participants are NOT required to read aloud if they do not want to. Come and listen or read...or make up your mind when you get there!

This event will be recorded over YouTube but only those speaking will be seen in the recording. Participants will be muted by default unless they read. If you do not wish to be recorded, remain muted and do not volunteer to read.

This will be fun! Thanks for registering!
