CHICAS ROCKERAS SUMMER CAMP 2019 - CAMPER APPLICATION
June 17th - June 22nd
Chicas Rockeras S.E.L.A. is a day camp where self-identified girls ages 8-17 explore the joys and challenges of collaborative music-making while guided by inspirational mentors.

In one week, campers form bands, write an original song and perform live at a local music venue in Southeast Los Angeles. Each day kicks off with punk-rock-aerobics to get our bodies moving, an inspired rendition of the camp theme song "Your Moment” and a hilarious yet educational skit by the “Mini Novella” actors. Morning sessions consist of group instruction in the instrument each camper has been assigned for the week and a workshop. Workshops at camp may include designing and screen-printing camper band t-shirts, songwriting, self-defense, zine-making, image and identity, recording, media literacy, and more! At lunch, a guest artist will take the outdoor stage to perform, talk about their work and take questions from campers. After lunch, campers have plenty of time to jam and write and rehearse their band's song.

Any self-identified girl between the ages of 8-17 is encouraged to apply. Prior music experience is not required. All instruments are provided.

ENROLLMENT PROCESS
Any self-identified girl between the ages of 8-17 (campers must be 8 years old by June 1st, 2019) is encouraged to apply to summer camp. It is our goal to form a balanced and diverse camper population. Applications are due by April 1st.

The first step is to submit your application online or by mailing in the printable version. We will send you an email confirming that we have received it along with instructions for the “Express Yourself” piece. If you don't get that email within a week of applying, email or call us. Please make sure your email address is correct. Your application is not complete without the “Express Yourself” piece.

We will contact you by email or phone to let you know if the camper has been accepted by April 7th. Accepted applicants will be informed of their tuition amount due. Do not send tuition before you have received your acceptance notice. Tuition is due on May 5th.

If we don’t receive your tuition or hear from you within a week of us contacting you, your spot will no longer be held and may be given to someone else.

The camper's enrollment is confirmed once we receive your tuition. More information about camp will be provided to you after that point.

A wait list will be formed as spots fill up.
EXPRESS YOURSELF!
As part of the application process, we want to hear from campers. Campers are required to respond to a set of questions in written form. A link to instructions is included at the end of this application.

Please note that, the application is considered INCOMPLETE until this portion has been completed.
INSTRUMENT ASSIGNMENT
Campers will be assigned one instrument to focus on for the week. They will have a group lesson in that instrument each morning of camp. In the application, campers are asked to indicate their first, second and third choice of instrument. Their choices are: voice, guitar, bass, keys, or drums. Certain instruments are in greater demand than others, and we also have to factor in even distribution across ages so that bands can be formed. Not all campers will be assigned their first or second choice. Campers cannot change instruments once their instrument has been assigned.

All instruments will be provided. If a camper has their own guitar or bass, they may bring it, but Chicas Rockeras South East Los Angeles does not accept liability for personal instruments.
ARRIVAL AND PICK-UP TIMES + EXTENDED HOURS
