MYC Focus Themes
MYC has identified seven different focus themes that affect the daily lives of youth in Minneapolis: safety, education, employment, green, housing, transportation, and health. These focus areas are reoccurring themes that come up in the different initiatives and projects that MYC has worked in. Below are provided different descriptions for each of the focus areas.
  1. Safety:  MYC focuses on ensuring the safety and well-being of youth in Minneapolis through various initiatives and community projects. This emphasis on safety is integrated into all focus areas, ensuring that youth are protected and supported in every aspect of their lives.
  2. Education: Members work on initiatives, participate in discussions and facilitate  youth community conversations aimed at informing youth, parents and adult stakeholders about issues that matter to young people in their educational journey.
  3. Employment:  Members encourage youth employment by moderating the annual Teen Job Fair, leading employment workshop training, and also learning and teaching youth about how to become entrepreneurs.
  4. Green: Youth members doing work related to the "Green" theme work on things on how to address injustices in the Climate fight and work on projects to make Minneapolis a greener place.
  5. Housing: Members learn about affordable housing, opportunity housing and workforce housing, and so much more.
  6. Transportation: Members work to find ways they can shape and influence the public transit system in the Twin Cities to make it more youth friendly.
  7. Health: Typically initiatives related to this theme relate to the physical & mental wellbeing of yourself and those around you.
