WAITLIST APPLICATION - Volunteering at Al-Shifa Clinic

Al Shifa Clinic is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team in various capacities.

About Us: Al-Shifa Clinic (located in Fridley, MN) provides FREE healthcare services for those in need, regardless of insurance status. The clinic was established almost 30 years ago by dedicated community members who understood the gap in access to much-needed healthcare services. Through hard work and determination, this community-based, non-profit, charitable organization has been serving the health needs of the uninsured, low income, and underserved community since then.

Roles

We routinely pull volunteers off our waitlist application to fill roles as they become available. Roles include clinical assistant, quality improvement officer, health screening assistant, and more. Volunteers are invited to apply to a few different open roles based on capacity and their interest. Roles differ in their responsibilities, time commitment, and expectations. These will be communicated to volunteers as they are invited off the waitlist to apply for specific roles.

Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate student at a Minnesota institution.
  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career in healthcare or a related field.
  • Prior healthcare-related experience is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • A strong commitment to improving the healthcare access of underserved individuals in the community.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
Successful candidates will receive training and orientation to ensure they are well-prepared to serve our community effectively.

Clinical Assistant - volunteering 1-2x per month in the clinic, checking patients in, taking vitals, scribing for the visit, and assisting with discharge
Quality Improvement Officer - volunteering 1-2x per month to survey/interview patients and staff to improve clinic workflows/processes and provide a better patient experience
Health Screening Assistant - volunteering at 1-2 health screening events per month across the Twin Cities and possibly beyond to screen our communities for high blood pressure and diabetes
Outreach - being involved in clinic outreach efforts to increase patient traffic
Events - organizing and planning health seminars and workshops across a broad range of topics for the community's benefit
