Thank you for your interest in the CPJ Residency Program. CPJ Counseling
Services is committed to delivering exceptional counseling and wellness
services across Virginia. Founded on the belief that all individuals possess

with clients on their journey toward emotional health.
Our Residency Program is designed to meet the requirements of the
Virginia Board of Counseling and is tailored for Residents who embody our core
values of CARE, CURIOSITY, COURAGE, and CHARACTER.
At CPJ Counseling Services, we engage in an integrative approach to
therapy, blending culturally attuned practices with advanced techniques,
including Parts Work, Somatic Interventions, and Polyvagal Theory.
Application Process:
- Submit the completed application form.Submit your resume/CV.
- Provide a copy of your transcript. The unofficial transcript is acceptable.
- Provide a copy of your conferred degree. If you are applying prior to your commencement or receipt of your degree, your conferred degree must be provided within 90 days of accepting the employment offer.
- Provide three (3) professional references. At least one reference must be from a clinical supervisor or mentor who can speak to your clinical skills and cultural competence.
- Submit a brief introductory video that is no more than five minutes in length. Your video should include the following:
- Your name
- Your motivation for becoming a therapist
- How CPJ Counseling can support you in this stage of your journey
- One meaningful insight you gained during your graduate experience.
NOTE:
- Should an employment offer be extended, approval as a licensed Resident in Counseling must be received by the Virginia Board of Counseling within 90 days of accepting the employment offer. Additionally, a copy of your conferred degree must be submitted within 90 days of accepting the employment offer.
- Outpatient therapy operates on a fee-for-service model, meaning compensation is based on completed client sessions. As such, residents should expect a gradual caseload build, especially in the first few months. While CPJ provides support through referrals and marketing, income may vary until a consistent schedule is established. Applicants should plan accordingly and understand that this is a normal part of outpatient clinical work.

Review Process:
Once your application materials are received, we will thoughtfully review
your qualifications. If selected, you will be invited to participate in our
interview process.
