Thank you for expressing interest in serving at this years, Burnett-Douglas-Washburn Summer Camp to be Monday-Wednesday July 6-8 , 2026 at Luther Park Camp & Retreat Center in Danbury, WI.
We plan to select camp staff based on maturity instead of age and also fit and
need. Because costs are higher than at previous facilities, we need to be more
mindful of expenses. We anticipate making final youth camp staff decisions in May when preliminary numbers and budgets are firmer.
All 4-H Summer Camp staff including Junior Counselors, Counselors and Chaperones are a unpaid volunteer position. Summer Camp staff will represent their County 4-H program in a positive manner. You will assist the 4-H and Luther Park Camp Staff members to ensure a safe, positive, fun and challenging learning experience for all campers.
Staff openings:
Junior Camp Counselor: for youth ages 12-13, will assist the cabin counselor and serve as a role model for campers. Counselors will get to know each camper in their cabin and will help ensure that cabin rest time and free time are enjoyable while meeting the needs of the campers and the purpose of the time.
Camp Counselor: for youth ages 14-19 years old, will be directly responsible for campers in their cabin with the help of Junior Counselor. Counselors will get to know each camper in their cabin and will help ensure that cabin rest time and free time are enjoyable while meeting the needs of the campers and the purpose of the time.
Summer Camp Resource Counselor - for youth ages 14-19 years old. This position is unique in that the Resource Counselor will assist camp staff during peak activity times during the day by helping plan and lead specific camp activities. Youth will not be directly responsible for campers, but may have to assist and will be staying in cabin with campers.
Adult Camp Chaperones: for adults over 21 years old. Chaperones will stay at camp for the entire duration and help assist the counselors and 4-H staff to ensure that camp is safe and fun. May help lead activities if you wish. Chaperones will be need to be a current 4-H volunteer enrolled in 4-H online and complete the training and pass the background check. If you are not a current 4-H volunteer, no worries, we can still get that completed prior to camp!
