Eastern England headstarted curlew - sightings
Please use this form to report a sighting of an Eastern England headstarted Curlew. We depend on sightings to monitor their behaviour and movements post-release. Birds are marked according to the following scheme, and as shown in the example photo below:

Left above = Yellow flag engraved (00), Orange
Left below = -
Right above = Yellow
Right below = metal

There are also Curlew at other sites being marked using this scheme, denoted by different colour rings under the engraved yellow flag:

Orange = Eastern England - headstarts
Blue = Severn & Avon Vales - wild adults
Red = Sussex - headstarts
Yellow = Severn, Avon & Dartmoor - wild chicks
Green = Dartmoor - headstarts
White = Oxfordshire & Wiltshire - adults & chicks

Use this form only for Eastern England (yellow flag + orange ring), which are returned to BTO.

To report other sightings of yellow flag curlews from different sites under this scheme, please email Kane.Brides@wwt.org.uk.

If you are resighting on The Wash and see a Curlew with an engraved white flag, this is likely to have been ringed by the Wash Wader Research Group; please report your sighting to sightings@wwrg.org.uk.
