In keeping with a tradition of the 34th District Democrats, we are excited to share details about our 2024 Holiday Service Project.
Keith Hughes runs the Westside Neighbors Shelter, the only shelter in all of West Seattle that serves unhoused adult men and women with meals, shower facilities, warm clothing, and an indoor place to spend the night. They are located at the American Legion Hall Post 160, right here in West Seattle! Keith is very excited about partnering with the 34th District Democrats for this year’s Holiday Service Project, and we know that our love and holiday cheer will provide much needed help and comfort to those who need it, especially at this time of year as we are starting to feel the chill of winter in the air. As always, your help and contributions will be much appreciated so that we can help the most vulnerable in West Seattle!
These are the specific ways you can contribute to ensure another successful Service Project:
- Donations of 100 pairs of warm weather socks (Adult size only)
- Donations of 100 knit caps (Adult size only)
- Donations of 100 pairs of knit gloves (Adult size only)
- Make a cash donation to purchase items not donated with the balance made as a direct donation to WNS
- Volunteering your time (dates and tasks to be determined)
Our goal is to collect 100 warm weather socks, 100 knit caps, and 100 knit gloves, but there is no minimum or maximum limit to your donation, so please plan the number of items you purchase according to what seems reasonable for your budget.
If you don’t have time to shop but still want to help, a cash donation is a perfect way to contribute. Additionally, Rachel Glass - project chair - will be organizing ways that you can volunteer your time, since many hands make light work. Please sign up to volunteer and Rachel will be in communication about the available tasks and details. Watch our weekly email for more information as well. The culmination of the Service Project will happen on or around the middle of December. Learn more about Westside Neighbors Shelter and Keith's amazing work on their website.
