Welcome to the 2nd Annual Vail School District Junior Chef Competition! Our goal is to reach our whole community as we share recipes from our households. This year, we have divided the competition into two categories based on grade level; Junior Chef for K-8 and Master Chef for 9-12. The theme for Junior Chef (K-8) is a healthy veggie appetizer and a healthy veggie entree for Master Chefs. Recipes that require cooking will be limited to Master Chef contestants only.
Clearly, everyone has a different idea of what is healthy. To us, a healthy recipe means a dish that will improve your physical and mental health and put you in a positive, happy, healthy frame of mind to carry you through your day. So tell us in your submission a little bit about why you feel your recipe is healthy.
The deadline for recipe submission is August 4th. Finalists will be selected from the submitted recipes and will be invited to prepare their creations at Mica Mountain High School. Ingredients for selected competition participants will be pre-purchased and ready the day of the competition so please be sure to be specific to the ingredients needed. A panel of judges will be invited to taste these culinary masterpieces Saturday, August 19th from 10am - 2pm. Two separate sessions will include: Junior Chef - K-8 students and Master Chef - 9-12 students. Grand prize winners in each category will be selected. The three competing categories are; Elementary, Middle School & High School. Student finalists will be selected and notified by August 8th.
Please, only one submission per child. By submitting this recipe, you are giving permission to share this recipe in a community cookbook found on the Vail School District Wellness Coalition website.
We look forward to tasting and sharing the delicious recipes that you submit!!
