The Athenian Court
Theseus* - The Duke of Athens. Theseus is a hero from Greek mythology—he has recently returned from conquering the Amazons, a race of warrior women, and is about to marry the conquered Amazon queen, Hippolyta. A firm but reasonable leader. (The actor playing Theseus will also play Oberon.)
Hippolyta* - The legendary queen of the Amazons, engaged to marry Theseus. Although Hippolyta is marrying Theseus because he defeated her in combat, she does not act at all like an unwilling bride. Theseus is very courtly in his manner toward Hippolyta, and she is deferential toward him. (The actor playing Hippolyta will also play Titania.)
Egeus - An Athenian noble who wants his daughter Hermia to marry the arrogant Demetrius. He's haughty and used to getting his way.
Hermia* - The popular girl at school. Egeus's daughter and Helena's best friend. She's in love with Lysander despite being promised to Demetrius. She is very strong-willed, independent, and loyal.
Lysander* - The rebel with a heart of gold. He is in love with Hermia and wishes to marry her against her father's wishes.
Demetrius* - The arrogant jock/preppy type. Formerly in love with Helena, he is now in full pursuit of Hermia.
Helena* - Hermia's slightly nerdy, awkward friend. She is in love with Demetrius but he wants nothing to do with her. She is determined and clever, although sometimes jealous and self-pitying.
Philostrate - Theseus's assistant and Master of Revels. He can be quite judgmental but he gets the job done. (The actor playing Philostrate will also play Puck.)
The Rude Mechanicals (Can also be played as teachers.)
Peter Quince - A student at Athens High. He organizes his fellow theatre kids to perform a play for the Duke's wedding. Though extremely patient, he is often shoved aside by the the overly confident Nick Bottom. He plays the Prologue in Pyramus & Thisbe.
Nick Bottom* - A student at Athens High with asperations of being a star...too bad he's a horrible actor. He later gets caught in the fairy feud and finds himself the object of the fairy queen's infatuation. He plays Pyramus in Pyramus & Thisbe.
Francis Flute - A student at Athens High. He is forced to play Thisbe in Pyramus & Thisbe, a role he's super uncomfortable with at the start. However, he soon gives in and proves to everyone he's actually a really good actor.
Tom Snout - A student at Athens High who strives for perfection. He can be anxious and somewhat meddlesome. He plays Wall in Pyramus & Thisbe.
Snug - A student at Athens High who struggles with memorization and confidence. He's nervous but charming. He plays Lion in Pyramus & Thisbe.
Robin Starveling - A student at Athens High. He is often distracted and forgetful. He plays Moonshine in Pyramus & Thisbe.
The Fairy Court
Oberon* - The King of the Fairies. He is currently feuding with the fairy queen Titania and their fight has thrown the natural world into absolute chaos. He is proud, powerful, crafty, and vengeful, but not without compassion. (The actor playing Oberon will also play Theseus.)
Titania* - The Queen of the Fairies. Due to Oberon and Puck's antics, she finds herself in love with the transformed Nick Bottom. She is powerful, haughty, dismissive, but loyal. A girl boss in every sense of the word. (The actor playing Titania will also play Hippolyta.)
Puck - Also known as Robin Goodfellow. Puck is an amoral prankster who serves Oberon and is the cause of most of the show's antics. He is a lover of practical jokes and is silly, funny, rude, and a little bit mean. This role is perfect for an actor who is a mover or dancer. (The actor playing Puck will also play Philostrate.)
Peaseblossom, Moth, Cobweb, & Mustardseed - Titania's fairy crew. (The actors playing these four will also double as our dance chorus.)
Additional company - These actors will double as Athenians and fairies.
