Welcome!
Puppets and Prose is a quarterly event hosted by Rogue Artist Ensemble.

Affectionately described as "A Literary Salon... but with puppets!", our next two events for 2026 will be on Wednesday April 8, and May 13, 2026 at the Valley Relics Museum in the San Fernando Valley.  We are organized a little like a curated open Mic.  Each event will have a few curated acts as anchors, featuring Rogue Ensemble members, packaged along with submitted presentations.

You are free to use any kind of puppetry styles youd like to showcase.  You may interpret poetry, prose, music, or even more abstract ideas. We ask that presentations are no more than 5 minutes.  If you would like to have live instruments, please note the limitations on amplification below. We can provide up to two mics.  If you'd need to bring an amp of your ow, we could run a little bit of stage power.

Unfortunately there is no pay for performances, but if selected we will feature you in event announcements, and social media posts.

We ask that all presentations are self contained.  Rogue Artists Ensemble will provide Basic production support including
  • Basic Area Lighting
  • Music Playback capability via an 1/8" Aux Jack
  • Basic Amplification in no more than two standing Mics
  • As many as many as 2 Music Stands, 1 folding table, up to 3 Chairs,
  • A Standard backdrop Appx 10' by 10'
If you need on site rehearsal or "tech time" we can scedule up to about 20 minutes per presentation before house opens on day of show. If you have any production needs beyond this you would need to provide for yourself.

There are THREE ways we can approach submissions

 - GROUP A - You are self contained.  You have a literary piece, poetry or propse, original or public domain, and a way you would like to interpret that piece as a live performance with puppetry.
 - GROUP B - You are a maker and puppeteer, and would like to be matched with a writer to collaborate on an interpretation.
 - GROUP C - You are a writer, poet or musician with a piece you would like to see interpreted or performed

Which group would you categorize yourself as?
