    MCM Partnership Pledge

I, in an effort to effectively partner with the Morgan Community Mile, pledge to: 1. Be clear about the purposes or goals of the community engagement effort and population and/or communities my project/organization would like to engage. 2. Be knowledgeable about the community’s culture, including its norms, history, economic conditions, political power struggles and experience with engagement efforts by outside groups to collaborate with neighborhoods within the MCM. 3. Visit the neighborhoods within the MCM to establish relationships, build trust, work with formal and informal leadership, and seek commitments from community organizations and leaders to create processes for mobilizing the community. 4. Respect community decisions and understand that collective self‐determination is the responsibility and right of all community members. 5. Partner with the community and acknowledge that partnering with the community is necessary to create change and improve quality of life. 6. Utilize an approach that recognizes and respects community cultures and other factors affecting diversity in designing and implementing programs is critical. 7. Align my project with the principle stating that sustainability results from mobilizing community assets and developing capacities and resources. 8. Be prepared to release control to the community and be flexible enough to meet its changing needs. 9. Fulfill any commitments made to the MCM, with the understanding that community collaboration requires long‐term commitment.
