Gender in science
In this course, we’ll be exploring the ways that gender and technology have defined and redefined each other socially and culturally. We will consider a wide range of questions including: What role have women played in the development of technology, and how has technological change affected the roles of women and ideas of gender? How does technology offer possibilities for new social relations and how should we evaluate these possibilities? The course will involve multidisciplinary faculty from University of Brescia (i.e. Law, Economics, Engineering).
The aim of the course is to provide the student with basic knowledge about the research area of gender, science and technology. Upon completion of the course, the student shall:
1) demonstrate knowledge about gender relations in the organisation and practice of natural sciences and engineering.
2) demonstrate familiarity with central theories and concepts within gender studies of science and technology
3) be able to independently and critically reflect upon gender relations in the areas of science and technology
