Open Project Space Program Spring 2024 RSVP
Thanks for your interest in the Open Project Space (OPS) Program! The OPS Program is a ~5 week program that is designed to teach students with little to no experience electrical engineering, robotics, and programming skills and provide the tools to compete in Micromouse Competitions. If you complete all projects in this program, you will have created a Micromouse - a small, self-contained robot that can traverse a maze. Register for the IEEE Internal Micromouse Competition here!

Event Address: Light Engineering 175
Time and date: Thursdays at 7:00pm-8:30pm beginning 2/22/24 and Fridays at 4:00pm - 5:30pm beginning 2/23/24
Contact us: ieeesunysb@gmail.com

To RSVP, you must either pay a $20 REFUNDABLE deposit or be a member of the overall IEEE organization. If you pay the $20 deposit, it will be refunded to you if you demonstrate completion of all projects. If you are already a member, you will instead be rewarded the OPS kit if you demonstrate completion of all projects. The sign-up is on a first-come-first serve basis. If you do not pay the deposit before 2/22/24, your seat will be opened to the next person on the waitlist and you risk losing your spot in OPS.

This program requires a REFUNDABLE deposit of $20 to be paid to participate OR having an IEEE membership.

If you choose the $20 option, the deposit is returned only after you complete all 5 mini projects by demonstrating the completed project to an OPS Lead. You may pay the deposit either with cash to any executive board member or Zelle (347-598-0710) to President Rachel Leong. The deposit must be paid by 2/22/24 or you risk forfeiting your seat in OPS. After sending the deposit, you will receive a confirmation email within 48 hours.

If you choose the IEEE membership option, you will be asked to provide us your membership number in a later question. A student membership to IEEE can be purchased online at this link. If you complete all 5 mini projects by demonstrating them to an OPS lead and participate in the Internal Competition, you will instead be able to keep the Micromouse that you build.

If you have questions about the deposit process, you can contact us through ieeesunysb@gmail.com or by seeing President Rachel Leong, Vice President Chris Lobato, Treasurer Kyle Zheng, or Secretary Kyle Han during their lab hours.
Clear selection
There will be 5 mini projects total and each mini project session will be held twice a week at the times mentioned above to be more flexible with your schedule. If you signed up for Thursday, please try to only attend the Thursday lectures. If you signed up for Friday, please try to only attend the Friday lectures. This is because we have limited lab space.

The first week of workshops will be Thurs. 2/22/24 at 7:00pm-8:30pm and Fri. 2/23/24 and 4:00pm-5:30pm. A new workshop will be presented each week thereafter unless it is determined that more time is required by students to complete a week's project. Projects will be due a week after they are presented/assigned unless otherwise stated. All workshops will be the same times on Thursdays and Fridays. If you cannot make a workshop or do not finish the project within the workshop time, you are still required to complete the project and can attend lab hours to make up the project.
