Dear Members of the House Committee on the Judiciary,
We the undersigned implore you and all members of Congress to support Alex's Law (bill number pending introduction), a private immigration bill to stop the deportation of Rene Alexander “Alex” Garcia Maldonado (A#078176440) and enable him to remain lawfully in the United States with his U.S. citizen wife and five U.S. citizen children. We strongly urge you to advocate for the successful passage of this private bill, which would enable Alex Garcia to adjust his immigration status and live lawfully in the United States.
Alex is a family man, is not a danger to the community and should be reunited with his U.S. citizen wife and five U.S. citizen children. Alex was granted a Stay of Removal by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement originally in 2015, which was subsequently renewed in 2016. In 2017, despite no change to the circumstances which had warranted discretion previously and without regard to worsening conditions in his country of origin, his application was denied. We are kindly seeking your support of Alex and his family to stop this deportation.
Alex came to the U.S. from Honduras thirteen years ago seeking safety and a better life. Since then, he has become a respected member of community and a pillar of support for his family. He is the father to 5 U.S. citizen children ages 13, 12, 10, 5 and 4. His oldest son was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome in 2014 and depends on his strong relationship with his father to calm his stress and anxiety. For his eldest and his four other children, Alex is an incredible source of support and role model. In addition to caring of their children, two of which are younger than school-age, his U.S. Citizen wife of eight years works 40-hours a week and relies heavily on Alex for emotional and financial support.
The family has demonstrated admirable courage in the face of difficult odds and has taken great risks to stay together and protect one another. We join them in their affirmation of the rights of freedom of movement and protection from persecution, which are the rights of every human being. Alex has exhausted all opportunities under current law to reunite with his family, and now, we need Congress to do the right thing, and pass a private bill to reunite this family.
