The Montrose Education Foundation Teacher of the Year Program recognizes licensed classroom teachers for the significant contributions they make to their schools, district and their community. The nominees are individuals who:
Inspire students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn;
Have the respect and admiration of students, parents, community and colleagues;
Play an active and useful role in the community as well as in their school; and
Demonstrate high levels of academic achievement for their students.
Each nomination will be reviewed by the Montrose Education Foundation and those nominees who meet the selection criteria, will be recognized during American Education Week in November. To be considered for Teacher of the Year, a teacher must be nominated, then the nominated teacher must complete the Teacher of the Year Candidate Application, which they will receive in November. Nominated elementary, middle, and high school teacher candidates will be provided with information on how to proceed with applying for the April Teacher of the Year Award.
Who is eligible to be considered for Teacher of the Year?
How will Teacher of the Year be selected?
A classroom teacher who holds a Colorado teaching license and is currently employed by Montrose County School District RE-1J. The teacher must be in good standing and any non-compliant (expired) teaching license will disqualify the candidate.
A classroom teacher who has been employed with Montrose County School District for 3 years or more consecutively.
Prior MCSD Teacher of the Year recipients will not be eligible to receive the award twice; however, all nominees will be recognized.
The program is modeled after the Colorado Teacher of the Year Program and selections will be based on that program’s scoring matrix. Visit Colorado Department of Education for more details (https://www.cde.state.co.us/).
