Course Description
The Regional Writing Institute for National Board Certification was
created in response to requests from current National Board candidates, Renewal candidates,
or Advanced candidates to provide a collegial environment to support them in completing their
components. Candidates have the opportunity to write, read, and reflect in congenial and
supportive surroundings on portfolio entries, either working independently, with partners, or in
writing groups. The community of writers and reviewers supports the development of
component entries and the peer review of videotapes or DVDs of classroom teaching.
Recognizing that candidates need time for reading and writing and to exchange feedback with
their colleagues, the Writing Institute helps teachers exchange ideas and respond to one
another's work.
Join your colleagues for thoughtful and reflective discussion about National Board
Certification in a collegial setting. This program is open only to NBC candidates, Renewal
candidates and Advanced (Retake) candidates.
Sabrina Dolfinger, Ellen Hart, Jennifer Krom and Kathleen Young
Free - Funded through the NYSUT, Lower Hudson Teacher Center Network, and the SED Newburgh Teacher Center's Continuation Grant
Candidates need to bring a laptop computer, flash drive, classroom videos/DVDs, entries, student work, NBPTS component instructions, standards, and scoring guide.
