Animal Care Volunteer Questionnaire
Mahalo for your interest in joining the Pacific Rim Conservation volunteer team. With over 100 chicks to care for, volunteers are essential to the success of our Seabird Translocation projects. A lot of the work our staff, interns and volunteers participate in is not always “glorious” but the end results of the translocation project are. If you are looking to gain experience/ exposure to the wildlife conservation world and want to be a part of a ground-breaking project working to ensure the survival of these seabird species for generations to come, then this is the fit for you.
Start Date: Last week of March
End Date: Second week of June
Hours: 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Schedule: One day a week (ex. you will dedicate every Monday for the duration of the project and be a part of our Monday volunteer team).
Typical Volunteer Day Schedule
8:00: Arrive and help load up feeding materials into the car and travel to field site
8:15 - 12:00: Assist in feeding the translocated chicks (only staff feeds and handles the chicks)
12:00: Travel back to base yard
12:00 - 2:00: Clean all dishes and tools used to feed the translocated chicks
2:00: Head home!
Qualifications/ Desired Traits:
- Able to commit to coming one day a week for the duration of the season
(Preference will be given to those who don’t anticipate missing any days)
- Has a great, positive attitude
- Willing to receive constructive criticism
- Pays attention to detail
- Works efficiently
- Punctual (Arrives before or right at 8 AM)
- Enjoys doing “dirty” jobs
Washing dishes/ feeding tools used for the chicks
Cleaning out chick poop from their burrows
Botanical Restoration work in the field
- Able to work outside for 2 – 4 hours at a time
- Able to be on your feet for hours at a time
