SOCIAL MEDIA USE FOR CARTOONISTS - MAY 2017

The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) invites entries from Nigerian cartoonists to a two-day training on Social media use for cartoonists in Lagos State

Application deadline: Thursday 4 May 2017

Training: Thursday 11 & Friday 12 May 2017. Time and venue will be communicated to shortlisted participants.

Social media use for cartoonists training is an initiative of Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) designed to help cartoonists understand various social media tools and apply the knowledge to better engage on the issues their cartoons represent. It is a part of WSCIJ’s Art of the Cartoon: Imaging Social Realities programme whose vision is to raise discussion on the status of cartooning in Nigeria’s news media by developing the capacity of reporters in the genre to deepen their culture of satirical, investigative and humorous cartoons.

The training will see participants put through introduction to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, the peculiarities of the platforms, their uses and the relevance of this to media cartooning on the first day. The second day will be a practical session forparticipants, as they would be using skills from the previous day to participate in WSCIJ’s tweet chat – ‘Cartooning in the days of yore’.

Note:

Female cartoonists are encouraged to apply.
