In preparation for this internship trainees will participate in a FREE 6-week video production training hosted by the Media Arts Center of San Diego.
Training starting date TBD - January 2026. The training is six weeks on Monday and Wednesdays from 3-6 PM, once the training is over, you will begin an onboarding process with the City of San Diego.
The program is open to young adults aged 18-26. At the end of which you're paid a $550 stipend and begin a professional internship with the City of San Diego!
Payment is contingent on fully completing our training course and participating in a background check process to prepare for a paid $17.65 - 22.75/hr internship with the City of San Diego! The stipend for participating in the program is contingent on your commitment to the internship at the conclusion of the onboarding process and one full week of work with the city.
Employ & Empower Internship Program
The City of San Diego’s Employ & Empower Internship Program provides paid opportunities
for interns to gain valuable experience working on some of San Diego’s most important
needs. It’s designed to employ and empower the next generation of public servants at the City!
Who is eligible to apply?
• Anyone between the ages of 18 to 26
• Priority will be given to applicants from communities of concern who are low-income,
unemployed, justice-involved, in foster care, or have experienced substance abuse or
mental health issues.
The Media Arts Center San Diego's mission is to provide new media tools and channels to create equitable and engaged communities where underserved voices are heard.
This program is possible thanks to the San Diego Library, Youth Service Corps, the Library Foundation and Employ & Empower. Training is funded by the San Diego Library Foundation, and the internship salaries are funded by Employ & Empower.
