2018 ASMSA Biomedical Summer Camp Student Application
Calling all future doctors, microbiologists, forensic scientists, biomedical engineers, and other STEM enthusiasts for a once in a lifetime opportunity! The Biomedical Sciences Summer Institute will introduce participants to a fascinating range of topics, including forensic crime scene analysis and microbial biochemical identification tests, all while gaining hands-on experience in molecular biology laboratory techniques and scientific literacy and communication skills. Students will isolate their own DNA, collect and assess environmental bacteria for antibiotic resistance, learn about fascinating aspects of protein structure and mutations, and even transform bacteria to make them glow in the dark. You don’t want to miss this!

Camp will take place from Sunday afternoon July 15 to Friday afternoon July 20.There is no cost for this camp. Food, lodging, and supplies will be provided by ASMSA at no charge. Supervision by our residential life staff and activities will be provided for campers during off hours.

Camp Dates:

July 15: Arrival by 4:00 p.m.
July 16-19: Camp
July 20: Camp and departure at 4:00 p.m.

Eligibility Requirements
Students applying to be a part of the Biomedical Summer Camp should meet the following eligibility requirements: Students must

1. be an Arkansas high school sophomore in Fall 2018
2. have a clear interest in biology
3. demonstrate academic performance and potential
4. submit a brief recommendation from a teacher, counselor, GT coordinator, or school administrator. (Instructions for the recommendation will provided when you push the Submit button on this Application Form)

Please note: We welcome repeat applicants but, please note, those that have not attended an ASMSA camps in 2018 will have preference
