Concert 1 (Fall 2016): Monsters, Creatures and LegendsPerformed around Halloween, we will be sharing songs of monsters and animals and Legends. Performances will take place at the Arts at Cabrini Series (Highlands Ranch, CO), Syntax Physic Opera (21 and over) and Wash Park Center for Music and Arts (Children's Show). This show will be professionally recorded as a Denver Art Song Project 2016-17 album.
Performance dates: 10/21 or 10/22 (TBD); 10/27 (pending confirmation); 10/29 (confirmed)
Concert 2 (Winter/Spring 2016): ShakespearePerformed in the second half of the season will feature songs with lyrics by Shakespeare (in any language). Performances will take place at Syntax Physic Opera and Wash Park Center for Music and Arts (Children's Show).
Performance dates: 2/16 (pending confirmation) and 2/18 (confirmed)
Audition Dates: August 2016 (TBD) in the Denver AreaApplication Requirements:- Youtube Link to live performances (could be art songs or opera performances). Please be sure that the video reflects your personality as a performer.
Audition Requirements (3 Songs Total):2 art songs in any language from your regular repertoire (Must be off book). When you present, please speak for a few minutes about the history of the song and why you chose it.
1 art song in any language that fit either the Monsters, Creatures and Legends Theme or the Shakespeare theme (may be on book). Please speak about this history of the song or text and why you chose it.
- No age limit- No fee for audition, if application is accepted- Please keep in mind that your pianist will likely be sight reading so no Erlkönig, please.- Songs can include instrument obligato in performance. If you choose an art song with obligato or chamber style, please have artists in mind who can participate with the show. -- We encourage a diverse selection of songs that include solo instrumental collaborators but no chamber orchestras or string quartets, please!-We are not seeking any particular voice type, just the right singing artists to make a show.-If you are selected, you will have a role in shaping the repertoire and conversations of the concerts and curating art to relate to your song.- DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: July 15, 2016 at 9 p.m. Mountain Time
General Information:DASP performs an unconventional recital with narration between songs and super-titles paired with projections of works of art. If you become part of our roster of artists, we will collaborate to select works of art and create super-titles that are readable and understandable for your audience.
DASP is a cooperative and, while concert performances provide an honorarium, we do a fund-raising concerts and may ask that you participate to spread the word about our organization and solicit tax-deductible donations that support our performances and recordings.
DASP's mission is to create an inclusive community of art song singers in the state of Colorado. We work to make lively and informative performances that welcome new audience members to appreciate the Art Song Genre.
